Blog 3 !
This week, I listened to "How Deep Is the Ocean?" written by Irving Berlin and performed by Bing Crosby. Listening to the song, it felt very personal as if he was singing to listener. Knowing that Irving Berlin wrote the song, I wonder about what he was going through to get the inspiration for this song since it is a sad song. It makes you wonder about other songs that your favorite artists have performed if they wrote the song and relate to the lyrics or if they are just singing it. Another reason I chose to listen to this song was because I was curious to see the beginning of crooning. I think that it is interesting how microphones are what made crooning possible. Before microphones, performers needed their voice to project across a room. Once microphones were introduced, crooning became possible. It makes you also wonder about how much technology has affected the music industry.
This was a really cool song I enjoyed listening to it. Bing Crosby had a pretty incredible voice. I would agree that the song felt personal to the listener. It's cool to think that your favorite artist maybe didn't write the song. One of my favorite singers is George Strait he has a lot of songs that other people wrote and he made number one hits. So I think that sometimes a really good song needs a really good singer in order to make it the best song that is a hit song. I feel like Bing Crosby was the perfect singer for this song. I am also curious about what Irving Berlin was going through at the time that gave him the inspiration to write this song. I think that technology has made a big impact on music. I am curious if without the invention of microphones and other technology if our favorite artists would still be popular without the assistance of technology. This was a really cool song and a good blog post.
